O1 European Requirements and Stakeholder Analysis
O1.1 Analysis Planning: Planning was done with all the partners during the kickoff meeting and in the following monthly consortium meetings. The final questionnaire and interview guideline was agreed on by all partners and translated into the national languages.
O1.2 Requirements and Stakeholder analysis: Interviews were carried out by partners in their own countries. 40 professional educators were interviewed. The analysis identified the main requirements and barriers towards Citizen Science in schools in the national context.
O2 Competency framework for Citizen Science
O2.1 A pedagogical framework was created as a practical guidance for the creation of learning scenarios (O3). As a starting point, the key concepts were defined (Inquiry Based Learning, Service Learning, Citizen Science for educational purposes. Beyond the initial proposal, we have extended the model towards a guideline for Citizen Science in schools.
O2.2 Competency Framework (initial version completed, task ongoing)
The Competency Framework was formed by an initial literature review as the requirements analysis identified several gaps in recent competency frameworks. An initial review by experts was performed which led to a new structure of the competency framework. The overall framework combines competencies of (core) Citizen Science, Data Science as well as Scientific literacy. An initial validation was done in different workshops, both internally and externally.
O2.3 Competence scheme and guideline
We provide a standardized competency description scheme which is used in our project. This is enhanced by a guideline how to map (national, regional) curricula so that our approach is transferable to other countries.
O3 Citizen Science open learning scenarios:
O3 Final report (introduction and links to the final learning scenarios)
O3.1 Initial open Learning Scenarios
For the initial scenarios, all partners collected 10 learning scenarios in english from their respective countries. The partners chose different focus themes (e.g. HRW: app development / climate, VGTU: SoclalMedia, Poliba: historical building, EA: Earthquake reporting).
O3.2 Initial Scenarios (Multi-language)
The above mentioned 10 open learning scenarios per country will be translated. By this combination, we provide examples for including CS into different subjects. All scenarios are available in English as well as the country language. The English scenarios are available on the website https://fabcitizen.eu/learning-scenarios/
O3.3 Mapping of OER
The learning scenarios are enhanced by recommending existing resources. For this purpose, we have collected (open) resources to be re-used in schools. Each resource is described in our collection using our competency categorization as well as metadata (language, target group, type of resource, …). We have collected 299 open educational resources and 204 citizen science projects.
O4 Trials and validation
O4 Report on evaluation (pilots, large scale trials, good practices)
The following activities are documented in the final report:
O4.1 Design of the pilot project: In this activity, the validation plan and templates for the pilot workshops were created.
This activity contains also community building. Trials are designed with corona restrictions in mind. Small scale trials and validation (O4.2-O4.5) were done in 2022 and were carried out in partner countries.
O4.6 Initial report: The report presented the results of the validations. It will also provide recommendations to update 1) the competence framework and 2) open learning scenarios based on the initial experiences.
The second empirical phase consisted of large scale trials in Germany (O4.7), Italy (O4.8), Greece (O4.9) and Lithuania (O4.10).
O4.11 Validation Report present the results of the large scale trials and again provides recommendations for updating learning scenarios and the competence framework
O4.12 Good Practice Guide has collected practices which have been created within the project. Also, it we have gathered good practices from other experts in Europe in this area.
